The English word “adventure” actually has its historical roots from the French term “aventure”. The French term was derived from the Latin translation, “adventurus” which means “about to arrive”. However, over time this word has come to accept the meaning of “any exciting event that contains elements of risk and/or danger and where the outcome is uncertain. (Ewert and Sibthorp, Outdoor Adventure Education) Adventure learning can also simply mean any challenging task or experience that has been established with potential risk for the participants that lends to a variety of possible outcomes specific to individuals leading to a positive learning and behavioral change in those certain participating individuals.
